Dany SALME

Dany Salme is a Belgian artist born in 1966 in Liège, where he received a BFA from Saint-Luc Superior Art School in 1987.
Blending realism with elements from pop culture, his paintings combine old masters’ techniques with various influences. Dany Salme draws his inspiration from his surroundings — from Disney animated movies’ characters and other childhood memories to the cows grazing in the meadows of Aubel, in the countryside where he lives.
A close observer of all living beings, human and non-human, inhabiting the natural world, his favourite subjects remain animals and portraits. Yet his art goes beyond representation, as his paintings are often filled with surreal aspects, skewed details, and anthropomorphic entities. This best shows in his psychedelic and colourful murals, some of which can be seen in places such as the Pot au Lait, a well-known bar in the heart of Liège.
